It could be easier for fathers to take paternity leave in the future…

On 24th May 2023, the Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act received Royal Assent.

This will allow eligible parents whose new-born baby is admitted to neonatal care, to take up to 12 weeks paid leave, in addition to maternity and paternity leave.

On the same date the protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Act and Carers Leave Act were also passed. The protection from Redundancy Act will allow the extension of existing redundancy protections for employees on maternity leave, to be extended to cover pregnancy and a period of time after a parent has returned to work. The Carers Leave Act will allow employees who are caring for a dependent with a long term care need, to be given new statutory flexible unpaid leave entitlement.

We appreciate that this may impact you as an employer as well as being a parent and we will provide more details as these become available.
