Several increases to you and your nanny’s National Insurance payments are in the pipeline for April and July 2022.

Increase in National Insurance (Social Care Levy)

From 6 April 2022, employee National Insurance contributions are increasing from 12% to 13.25%, and employer National Insurance from 13.8% to 15.05%.

You may have seen reference in the press to a ‘Social Care Levy’. This is the name currently given by the Government to this increase. (The increase may even appear on a payslip under a separate heading as Social Care Levy.)

Increase in National Insurance thresholds

From July 2022, the threshold at which employees start paying National Insurance will increase from £9,568 per annum to £12,570 (an increase of £184 to £241 weekly). This will result in a decrease of employees’ National Insurance from July 2022 by £8 per week.
